Uniendo Hilos/Merging Threads unites nationally renowned artists Arleene Correa Valencia (b. 1993) and Antonio Lechuga(b. 1985) through compositions of fabric and thread. Both artists emphasize safety, comfort, protection, and family care in their work by stitching and sewing everyday fabric into something symbolic, beautiful, and magical.

Born in Michoacán, Mexico and based in California, Correa Valencia makes work about migration that is equally about grief and anxiety as it is about celebration and joy. Her work features family clothing that is handed down and that represents pride and visibility. Correa Valencia stitches together stories of love, compassion, and protection.

Dallas-based Lechuga makes collaged work out of cobijas—utilitarian fleece blankets. Cobijas are household objects, placed on couches and beds, that hold powerful stories and emotions. Whether he is depicting a local storefront, a quinceañera dress, or a majestic plant, Lechuga embeds comfort and care in his imagery.

The duo is joined together here for the first time through the weaving of their individual works into a metaphorical, narrative tapestry.
