#differentstrokes is the title of Lovas’s vinyl banner depicting an enlarged photo of artist Kathy Lovas waving at viewers from the waters of her backyard swimming pool. The title #differentstrokes speaks to the variety of swim strokes Kathy swims daily, and the variety of artworks exhibited at Liliana Bloch Gallery. It recalls the common phrase "Different Strokes for Different Folks", the proverbial American saying of the late 20th century, meaning that different ways of doing something are appropriate for different people (the saying is of US origin, and strokes here means, ‘comforting gestures of approval’).
