Isaac Diaz’s practice focuses on ceramics, evoking visual meditations on Latin American history and addressing his Salvadoran ancestry. Diaz seeks to rescue traditional pre-Columbian ceramic techniques, reinterpreting his genealogy. His work is inspired by personal meditations on Latin American history, and in honoring his Salvadoran ancestry, Diaz feels compelled to adapt traditional ceramic production to current times.
In 2019, Diaz founded Uoqaus, his ceramics alias and brand. Uoqaus is an ever-evolving exploration of clay and a hybrid between fine art and design.
Issac Diaz holds a BFA from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. He was awarded the Arquetopia Residency Program in Puebla, Mexico, and the Gracia Residency in Antigua Guatemala, Guatemala. Isaac’s work has been shown at Oklahoma Contemporary and Oklahoma Hall of Fame, Gaylord Pickens Museum, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, as well as in Los Angeles, New York, and Mexico City. In 2022, he founded the Latinx artist and designer collective, Naranjo Naranjo. This project aims to broaden the knowledge of Latin American cultures and showcase the innovation and thoughtful design in the region. Isaac Diaz lives and works in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
