January 5 – February 10, 2019

Desde la calle is the newest body of work by Randall Garrett since the multimedia artist moved to Mexico City. As the capital of Mexico, this urban complex is the most populated city in North America, one of the most important cultural and financial centres in the Americas, and the largest metropolitan area in the Western Hemisphere. In Garrett’s words: Here day becomes night, as the waking world transitions into a dream space of sights and sounds, colliding in an array of sensations. A place where time and memory all collapse into an overwhelming present. As a result of the artist integration with his surroundings, he created a series of collages. The artist believes the essence of his pieces have a “dual existence”; collages and posters leave his studio to live in the streets as arte urbano. Desde la calle brings the pieces back to a gallery setting giving them new context and meaning.

At the opening reception, the artist will debut the performance piece Estoy mojado con tu amor, a blend of spoken word, video projection, and ritual action that will express the dreamlike sense of a limbo existence between two worlds. The act begins at 7:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public.
