Abigail Reyes
Sutura is an exhibition that marks the artist personal and poetic exploration of healing, memory, and the fragmented nature of our bodies and structures. Created from a time of sickness in the artist’s life, the work connects Abigail’s physical healing with the fractures she observed in her home in El Salvador.
The cracking of her walls of her home, from the region’s frequent telluric movements, paralleled the artist’s weakened condition, as she bore physical and invisible marks of pain and trauma from her illness. Despite the damage, both foundations remained strong as Abigail took a holistic approach to healing, mending her body and mind.
Her displayed works reflect this experience as the stitches highlight and transform, rather than concealing the damage beneath.
