Simón Vega

Simón Vega is a Salvadoran contemporary artist whose practice spans drawing, sculpture, installation, and participatory happenings. Inspired by informal architecture, market stalls, and vendor carts found throughout Central America, Vega constructs playful replicas of spacecraft, satellites, surveillance systems, modernist buildings, and Mayan pyramids using wood, cardboard, plastic, metal, plants, lights, and other found materials. His work uses humor and improvisation to examine technological inequality, colonial histories, the Cold War, and the relationship between the Global North and Global South. Vega has exhibited at the Venice Biennale, Centre Pompidou, the Bronx Museum, Pérez Art Museum Miami, and the Parrish Art Museum. He lives and works in La Libertad, El Salvador, and is represented in Dallas by Liliana Bloch Gallery.
