Baatarzorig Batjargal is a Mongolian contemporary artist known for bringing the traditional language of Mongol Zurag painting into dialogue with contemporary life. Through richly detailed compositions, he combines Buddhist and shamanic imagery, historical figures, animals, political symbols, and references to popular culture. His work examines Mongolia’s transformation through Soviet rule, democratic reform, urbanization, and global capitalism while considering the preservation of cultural memory and nomadic traditions. In 2026, his work was presented by La Biennale di Venezia in Where Splendid Horses Run at the Fine Arts Zanabazar Museum in Ulaanbaatar. Batjargal lives and works in Ulaanbaatar and is represented in Dallas by Liliana Bloch Gallery.
